  23. Here's how I did it:

  25. 1. Make a flat triangle (use disk with 3 sides and no depth).

  27. 2. Rotate it if needed so that one side is parallel with the axis of the
  28. screw.

  30. 3. Move the triangle away from center in 1D, one-half the width of the base
  31. of the screw.  
  32.  
  33. 4. Lathe 360 deg with an offset of exactly the width (or less) of one side of
  34. the triangle.  The offset determines the pitch of the screw.  What you now
  35. have is, to coin a phrase. "one turn of the screw".
  36.  
  37. 5. Clone as many as you need to make up the length of the screw, offset
  38. exactly half the length of one turn.
  39.  
  40. 6. Taper.
  41.  
  42. This will make a wood screw.  For a machine screw use a trapezoid on it's
  43. side instead of a triangle, and don't taper. 
  44.  
  45. By the way, offset doesn't seem to work right in my version of 3.1.  Keeps
  46. reverting to meters.  So if you don't have 3.5, you may have to make a REALLY
  47. BIG screw, then size it.
